Audra's smile reminds me so much of the Mona Lisa painting you see in art museums – captivating, mysterious, beautiful, and compassionate are all of the emotions I feel. She has nothing but kind words of encouragement and gratefulness that flows out of her lips. During the makeover, SHE was the one who made sure others felt comfortable and often asked if they needed or wanted anything. I could tell Audra's selflessness and giving spirit are some of the many reasons that she is loved by her friends and family.
As mothers, I know firsthand what it's like to put everyone else first before ourselves. By the time we are done caring for other's needs, there was little to no time to care for our own needs. Can I get an AMEN?! With Audra, she was ready to start over and transform into a confident, independent single mom of two. Hey, girl, hey!
Check out Audra's interview and her gorgeous before and after mommy makeover transformation on Total Mom Makeover!
Watch ‘Total Mom Makeover’ episode #10:
We learned some great tips and how-to’s from celebrity hairstylist Dusty Simington of Salon Gregories as well as from our very own Dream Team that we’re sharing with you today:
TIP #1: Don't be fooled by products that say ceramic or titanium. Less expensive products can work just as well and can last just as long
TIP #2: Tame eyebrows in less time by using brow gel, which can be applied and add more shape to your eyebrows quickly and easily!
SALT LAKE CITY, UT
DAISY: Do you have any children? If yes, how many children do you have and what are their ages?
AUDRA: Two boys, ages 7 and 5
DAISY: What are your favorite hobbies and/or types of community service you serve in?
AUDRA: I have been blogging for the last 3 years. I've volunteered to write for the Tyler Robinson Foundation blog – a foundation dedicated to strengthening families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of a pediatric cancer diagnosis. For a short time, I worked with students struggling with behavioral and emotional issues and math. Through my church, I volunteered to be an extracurricular activity leader for girls ages 8-11 to give them an uplifting place to go afterschool. I really enjoy serving as a volunteer and being involved in my community. This last year, my husband and I separated. He accepted a job in Germany, and I moved to Germany with our sons twice in an attempt to reconcile and hold our family together. Unfortunately, my husband wanted out of the marriage. In June, I returned to the U.S. with our sons.
Having sold our home earlier this year, we returned to no home, no car, and to no job or income. Finding work and providing for my sons has been all-consuming. How I feel about myself has also taken a big hit. I would love to carve out time for myself and hobbies, and to volunteer and be involved in our community. But, I feel drained on every level. Most days, I feel like I'm surviving instead of living. I would love to have the confidence and energy to love and support others who are struggling in ways I understand all too well now.
DAISY: Walk us through what your mornings look like getting everyone ready for the day:
AUDRA: In between 4 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., at least one of my sons will sneak into my bed. We snuggle until about 7:30 a.m., when they get ready for school. We typically have a quick breakfast. When the weather was nice, we would walk and ride bikes to school. I drive them to school and pick them up from school everyday – being there when their school day starts and ends has always been important to me. While my boys are in school, I create as much paid work for myself as possible as a law clerk, virtual assistant, and blogger. Having spent the last several years at home with my children, I'm a newly single mom without a strong resume. That creates a lot of stress for me.
Being able to provide for my boys is my first priority. After school, we do homework and read together. Before and after dinner, we'll snuggle up in front of the TV or read a chapter out of our current chapter book. At bedtime, I help my boys get ready for bed. Their grandma will read to them and/or play the piano as they fall asleep. I wish that I felt better about myself and our situation. There are so many things I would do that I'm currently not doing. I would love to make more time for spiritual conversations before and/or after school, and really strengthen our foundation as a family without my husband. My 5-year-old isn't thriving in his current Kindergarten class – in fact, his confidence is suffering and now I'm faced with how to give him a positive educational experience and work to support my sons.
DAISY: How do you typically apply makeup on a normal day?
AUDRA: I am trying to use cleansers, moisturizers and other products to address those subtle signs of aging but I never know if they really help. I apply a primer to my eyelids before I brush on a lacquer eyeliner. Sometimes I'll ‘set' it with any powder for staying power. I've never known how to apply eye shadow. I use a concealer on obvious blemishes. I rarely use a foundation all over because I've never liked people being able to see my makeup when they're up close. When there isn't time for anything else, I curl my lashes and apply mascara and I'll wear something on my lips. I would love to learn how to apply contouring makeup WELL.
DAISY: How do you typically style your hair on a normal day?
AUDRA: As an easy ‘style' I recently gave myself bangs. I felt like if I styled my bangs and applied a little makeup, I could get away with pulling my hair up. I've never known which products to use to get the style I want. In the winter my hair tends to hold static. I've been pulling it up into a high bun, and styling my bangs to keep it up and out of the way. And, it takes 5 minutes. I would love to wear it down and wavy more often, but I'm worried about taking that kind of time and then not liking how it falls.
DAISY: How much time do you think you need each morning to get yourself ready?
AUDRA: 30 minutes
DAISY: When was the last time you made time for yourself?
AUDRA: I typically make time for myself late at night, after my boys are in bed. But, I usually feel exhausted the next day.
DAISY: What do you feel needs improvement with your current style and look?
AUDRA: I typically shop at thrift stores for my clothes and it's difficult to put a style and look together. My closet is full of black tops. I have a hard time finding clothes I'm comfortable in that don't look too loose and frumpy. In the summer, I lived in cheap workout clothes because they were comfortable – but I felt lazy. I would love to feel like a beautiful mom and woman. As my marriage fell apart, I really questioned whether I was beautiful, or sexy, or desirable. I would love to feel like a woman who has it together, and have go-to looks that make me feel confident depending on how much time I have and what the activity is.
DAISY: What's your unique story you'd like to share with the world?
AUDRA: After our second baby was born, I could not admit that I was experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression. I imagine it took a toll on my marriage. And then I stumbled into a world of “bloggers” and I was inspired to survive, and to create a joy-filled life for myself and for my family with a Disney-inspired blog. As an inexperienced blogger, I was very fortunate to have several opportunities that happen once in a lifetime. When my marriage began/continued to fall apart, the floor dropped out from beneath me. I fought, hard, for more than two years to bring my husband back around – to me, and to our marriage – and failed. As a newly single mom, creating a joy-filled life for myself and my sons is my top priority. This is the year we begin again. I must find my beauty, confidence, energy, strength and purpose.
DAISY: What positive changes have you felt or experienced when you've fixed yourself up?
AUDRA: Current expectations of women are high. We want to be beautiful and confident and sexy and valued. If we don't look like a Victoria's Secret model or behave like an adult film star, it can be hard to see that we are still beautiful WOMEN with so much to offer. I hate that we feel invisible if we didn't take the time to fix ourselves up – because we're still us, under the makeup and the sexy underwear. I think that clothing and makeup can help US see how beautiful we are. How beautiful our bodies are. How beautiful our eyes are. How beautiful our smiles are. I think we need to feel confident and ‘safe' to be ourselves in a society where outer beauty is what people seem to value most.

“It’s easy to find ourselves putting everyone else’s needs above our own,” explains Daisy. “Moms do this all the time, at their own expense. They find themselves rushing to get ready in the morning, not giving themselves the time and attention they deserve. I felt like I had to do something about this.”
No one knows better than Daisy Teh on how challenging it can be to balance the demands of motherhood while staying true to yourself. A teen mom at just 17, Teh got her cosmetology license and worked her way through college for makeup brands like Lancome and Borghese, where she fell in love with beauty and style. Despite her passion, Daisy Teh still struggled to raise two children, attend school, work and find time to look and feel her best. Once she landed a full time corporate job, she now has four children and a large family to care for. Despite living her “dream life”, Daisy Teh found herself tired, haggard and uninspired by makeup or clothing. “I felt like I’d lost myself,” Daisy recalls.
The It Mom Dream Team includes a slew of fashion, beauty, style, and media experts from across the country as well as four other online influencers who serve as the Dream Team Influencer Panel of judges and believe as she does, that the series will be life changing for the participating women and a true inspiration for viewers. “It’s important to lift one another up and support each other,” Daisy says. “This team believes in that vision.”
